ILC in Paraguay

Asunción, Paraguay - Twenty-eight new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed at the International Leadership Conference (ILC) Awards banquet on the eve of the Global Peace Festival (GPF). Excitement is mounting quickly as signs go up throughout the city regretting that tomorrow's festival is "Entradas Agotadas" or "Sold Out." The Paraguay GPF is the first of more than 15 planned for this year. img_83751 The ILC brought together more than 220 participants from 80 nations, including a significant group of Young Ambassadors for Peace convened by the Youth Federation. In his congratulatory remarks to the conference, UPF Co-chair Hyun Jin Moon spoke of his growing respect for Paraguay and its people. ILC - Peace Education on Cyprus

The Universal Peace Federation convened its first International Leadership Conference (ILC) for the Middle East region on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus May 23-25, 2008. Forty Ambassadors for Peace - new and old - gathered from 11 nations in the region for a special program that combined UPF presentations with active involvement through panel discussions and breakout sessions. Planned for more than three months as a starting point for more effective regional collaboration among the Middle East network of Ambassadors for Peace, the conference coincided with a breakthrough in Arab mediation efforts to enhance regional stability. A crisis that had brought Lebanon's opposing groups to blows and street fighting in mid-May was defused through a May 21 agreement reached with the help of the Arab League and the Qatari government, which hosted negotiations to overcome the crisis. What is GPF?

The Global Peace Festival promotes and celebrates persons and programs that contribute to reconciliation, mutual respect, harmony and cooperation among the members of the whole human family, as "One Family Under God". In partnership with a variety of faith-based organizations, NGOs, government agencies, educational institutions, and members of the private sector, GPF encourages programs that strengthen God-centered marriages and families, facilitate intercultural and interreligious cooperation, and foster a culture of peace and service. Ongoing programs are carried out throughout the year, and culminate in a biennial Global Peace Festival that consists of an international leadership conference, a social impact program, and a public celebration.
